Polysaccharide Pneumococcal Vaccine
Prevention of Pneumococcal infections (infections of the ear, blood, brain and lungs)
The most common adverse reactions include:
Evimar 13 Vaccine is a vaccine that helps develop immunity by initiating a mild infection. This type of infection does not cause illness but stimulates the body's immune system to produce antibodies (proteins) to protect against any future infections.
The 0.5 mL dose of the vaccine contains 25 micrograms of polysaccharide from each of the following 23 pneumococcal serotypes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6B, 7F, 8, 9N, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 17F, 18C, 19F, 19A, 20, 22F, 23F, and 33F. This vaccine is recommended for active immunization against pneumococcal disease in children aged 2 years and older, adolescents, and adults.
The vaccine consists of purified pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide antigens from 23 serotypes, which cause around 90% of invasive pneumococcal diseases. The vaccine induces an immune response that helps prevent infection by these strains.
Primary vaccination (Adults and children 2 years and older):
A single dose of 0.5 mL via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.
Special dosing considerations:
Revaccination:
The pneumococcal vaccine can be administered simultaneously with the influenza vaccine, provided separate needles and injection sites are used.
The vaccine should not be administered to individuals with:
Animal studies are insufficient to determine reproductive toxicity. Use during pregnancy only if necessary, and the potential benefits must justify the risks. It is unknown whether the vaccine is excreted in human milk, so caution is advised when administering it to breastfeeding mothers.
Store refrigerated at 2° to 8°C. Protect vials from light.
